Our Fur Kids

We started our fur kid family, at the same time as our human family. As with many parents, we find our fur kids more interesting to talk about.

We have had quite the pack! Maria was our first. She was a stray Cairn Terrier. She set us up for a long line of Puppy and Kitten People to roam in and out of our lives.

Noelia was next, and only with us for a short while. She was a huge Russian Blue, that we actually acquired at a yard sale! We were given orders to Japan, so Noelia went to live with friends. Sadly, we ended up in San Diego, with only Maria.

Sandy entered our lives in April of 2001. We only THOUGHT we were prepared for life as dog owners! Sandy was a Coydog, half coyote and half Golden Retriever. living with her brought out everything dog people we didn't know we had in us!

After Sandy, and when Maria went to the Rainbow Bridge, Sabrina joined our family. Sabrina was a 6 week old puppy, that we adopted from the San Diego Animal Shelter. We lost Sabrina in the San Diego Fire Storm of 2003, when she got loose from where she was kenneled. we only hope some loving family found her and adopted her and just never checked for a chip.

Wookie came along shortly after the fires, because Sandy was extremely depressed. Wookie was a cat one of our neighbors gave Sandy, to ease her loneliness. Wookie was a great friend for Sandy, until we got a 6 week old kitten, named Zelda.

Zelda s brought out Sandy's maternal side in a big way! Those 2 could not have been more bonded, had Zelda been a puppy, and Sandy gave birth to her! Zelda was the first of many kittens that Sandy took care of!  Frankie, Zelda's littermate, joined us a few months later, when her person decided he couldn't leave her when the ship deployed.

Around May of 2004, Diego joined our family. He was another addition, from the San Diego Human Society. He and Sandy were quite the pair! Everywhere they went, people were drawn to them! Diego went to the Rainbow Bridge in May of 2008.

Charger joined the crowd in October of 2006, when his family threatened to shoot the mean bugger! Oh, he was mean! It took him 6 months to stop biting us. Friends called him Cujo, because he was so mean. Charger was a long haired Chihuahua, and the product of a puppy mill. Charger died at the age of 7, from old age problems, the result of being inbred for money, rather than quality. Charger is the main reason I advocate against breeding.

Shortly after Charger joined out family, we suddenly found ourselves with 3 one day old kittens. We ALL took part of raising those kittens, even mean Charger had his moments with them! Eric, Casey, and Rosie all ended up being huge(15pounds+) healthy cats! Meisha popped into our family about then, as well. We were going to adopt her and the boys out in pairs. The boys moved on, but Meisha stayed.

Meisha is now 16 years old, and she doesn't have a care in the world. Every new dog or cat that enters her life, is just a new friend!

River joined our family on October 1, 2007. I picked him up from the Humane Society in Vancouver, Washington, after visiting him daily for 5 days! He looked just like a miniature Sandy, so my heart couldn't just let him sit there. We had to wait for him to be released, since he "was found with a collar"...they were hopeful someone would claim him. River is now around 17 years old!

Matty, who recently made his voyage to the Rainbow Bridge, joined us around the same time as River.

We did A LOT of rescue in Oregon, until we moved to Texas, in November of 2009. When we moved here, we had Sandy, River, Charger, Meisha, and Matty.

Today, we have River and Meisha still with us, as well as Philip, Garcia, Lily and Cissy.
